Went to hear Chatham, Mass. fisherwoman/photographer/activist Shareen Davis and her daughter, KSC alumna Shannon Eldredge, speak about women’s roles in traditional inshore fishing and show the documentary A Fish Story.

Weir fishing (source).  The technology is pretty much what it’s been for thousands of years.  Species taken include squid, scup, fluke, mackerel, and bluefish.  It’s a zero-bycatch, highly sustainable fishery, but because others aren’t, it’s been getting clobbered in recent years:  yet another instance of a resource user group which was not the cause of an open-access problem but which does get to have the solution taken largely out of its hide.
